Latest Scams:

Shopping Price Change - There have been lots of people who have been altering the prices of the items in their shop. For, instance you'll see a Fire Faerie for 2 np in a person's shop. When you try to purchase it, there is a warning sign saying that the price has changed and if you would still like to purchase it. Most likely that the price of that item will be changed to like 20,000 np instead. Basically, there are those who change the item's price dramatically to deceive the buyer. They do this by placing their item in their shop and setting its price. Then 1 second later they will alter the price by merely updating item's price. They probably are using two windows to do this or have a really small shop. Be careful of what you buy, because it maybe to good to be true. It's a good idea to only hold a small amount of nps and the rest be in your bank. This is not to much to be considered a scam but more of being cautious when it's to good to be true. Sometimes, if you buy the item before they alter it's price, you'll get it! However, that's not likely to happen and so it's recommended that you try and avoid the price changing trick. Don't be quick to judge an item and its price. Think before buying.

Spoppy II Scam & Other Items - We have found that a spoppy can converted into a spoppy II. A regular spoppy is worth about 4,000np and a spoppy II is worth about 2 million np. That is a big difference! When we say converted, we mean that a regular spoppy can be disguise as a spoppy II. This type of scam has been lurking around the trade post. We have no idea how they are doing it but it is recommended that you not buy a spoppy II at all. Neopets hasn't done anything to prevent these scammers yet.... There have been reports of people posting up items like battle potato up for trades. Then they take it down and tell you to bid on it again. However, they swap the battle potato for like a raw potato. It's all in the matter of tricking you and making you bid on something worthless. So, be careful when people neomail you about bidding on an item again!

Profile - People have in their profile saying, "I have been scammed and it's no fun, but this is not a scam. Send one of the following items: codestone, faerie, rare battledome item, or anything worth while and I will give you 1 million neopoints." Of course they will NOT give you the neopoints. If they knew a trick to get a million neopoints, then why don't they use it for themselves? Think about it! There are no cheats for the games on Neopet.com nor is there one to get rich. If people say there are, then they are lying and trying to trick you. There are some secrets that you may not know, like where the Hidden Tower is located, but people should not be selling that sort of information. This site has answers to that sort of information or you can ask on the chat boards and people will be glad to help you. Neopet.com has made sure there are definitely no way of cheating on their site, which is a good thing. Also, everything like your neopoints or game scores are stored on their server. In other words, there is no way of stealing items, neopoints, or anything else from their site!

Trade
- Have you been to the trade post? If you have then you're bound to see that someone has in their wish list saying, "If you buy something in my shop, you will receive this item." The item that they are talking about is usually a good item like a baby paintbrush or something. However, the item in their shop are usually price at like 90,000np for like a bottle of sand. This is indeed a scam, and they want you to buy overpriced items. They will not send you the item that they promised. Also, there have been people stating that a certain item came from the Hidden Tower. There are a few items that draw some resemblance but they may not be a Hidden Tower item. People have been trying to trick others to think an item is a Hidden Tower item so that they would profit off you. There are other ways a person can trick you in their wish list but just ignore it. Place a trade for the item shown and just ignore the wish list entirely unless it's a description of the item shown like how much they want for it. Also, some people have been tricky with the ability to type a web address into the wish list. People are putting like angelfire/blah/blah.com instead of www.angelfire/blah/blah.com. If they put the www. in their web address then it will be removed from the trade posting, but they are able to leave out www. and people still can go to that link. The link usually leads to a false logon page, so beware!

Fake Item - There are only a few that exist, but can cause major damage to you. There are ways of copying an item's image and having to link up to another site. They use this in their shop, so when you try to purchase an item from them, it leads you to a different page.  It will likely send you to a fake logon page, and you shouldn't enter your name and password! Just go back to Neopet.com and go back to your normal business. However, the Neopet Support Team has been doing a great job at looking at suspicious shops, so you shouldn't worry that much. There are rumors that people can put up for trade false images of an item, so that you would see a false item and place a trade for it. Also, another rumor of people able to alter the numbers in the price of if items in their shop. These rumors are false, so don't worry too much. There is no way of uploading false images into the trade center or changing the price shown on items. It's possible that they can hide the price, but all you need to do is click on the item once, which the price is shown and if you want to buy it for however much it costs.

Website
- There are tons of websites with the same logon page as Neopet.com, which is completely ILLEGAL. What they do is copy the logon page and have you enter your account name and password. Then that gets delivered via to their email and they gain access to your account. The only way to can get you to their logon site is by clicking on a false item or tricking you into going to their site. We recommend that you not log off Neopet at all, so that you don't have to logon. If you do so, be careful of other people who you live with because they can access your account as well if you don't log off. If you don't log off, then you will never have to log on or see that logon page. However, if you do then try refreshing the page because sometimes their server is down. If that does not work, then check and make sure that the web address is www.Neopet.com and nothing else! Otherwise it's a fake logon page, and you need go back to the real Neopet.com. Another idea that is highly recommended is that you bookmark www.Neopet.com, so that you have easy access to the logon page and know that it's not a scam.

Cookie Grabber - There are websites that can grab your cookie or piece of information located on your computer if you use Internet Explorer for your web surfing. They can grab the password to your Neopets account using special coding if you go to their website. The only way to prevent this from happening is by setting the security level on your Internet Explorer to maximum or updating your Internet Explorer to the latest version.

Fake Neopet Support Team Member
- There are many people who pretend to be a part of the Neopet.com team and pretend that they have the ability to do anything to your account. Of course, they do not have the power nor will Neopet.com ever temper with your account. The only way that your account maybe tempered is if you have given out your password to someone or your account has been disabled or description of your shop has been wiped because you violated the rules set out by Neopet.com. If you do get your account frozen, it will say when you try to logon into your account. This is the only ability that they have and the ability to reset your shop description if it violates to rules. The Neopet.com team will NEVER ask for your password, items, or money. If you receive an email from Neopet.com, they will never ask for your password or items. Why would they? There is no purpose for them to ask for your password or items when they can get it themselves!

Auction
- Ok, there are lots of people who put things into the auctions for a very low price, and then they use a 2nd account to bid on their own item. This way they would increase the bid price and force people to buy it at a high price. A clever way of auctioning things but it's illegal and should be reported. Just be careful of bidding too high....

Neomail
- This is a common scam and you probably received a neomail saying that you should send them the password to your account or have your email address changed in your account to have it set to their email. There are other things they might say, like to check their profile which then leads to the profile scam or any other scam they try to put one over you. It is common that they ask for your password, items, or changing of your email. What you need to do is block the user from sending you further neomail. They probably will setup a new account but sometimes they like to try and neomail scam you more than once. There are multiple scams they can put over you by sending a neomail to you, even a combination of scams which can be clever and tedious.

Suggested Rules Against Scams:
1) Trust NO ONE. Everyone Should Be Considered A Liar!
2) Don't Log Off Neopet.com, If You Have To, Then Keep A Bookmark Of The Logon Page And Use It When You Need To Logon.
3) Ignore All Neomail Unless It's A Trusted Friend....
4) NEVER Give Away Your Password To Your Account. Also, NEVER Change Your Email Address On Your Account Unless You Moved To A New Email Address.
5) NEVER Give Away Real Money. Neopet.com is FREE!
6) Anything You Read On Neopet.com That Is Not Part Of The Site, Like A Person's Profile Should Be IGNORED. Most Scams Come From Reading People's Chat, Neomail, Profile, and etc.
7) Anything You Read That's Outside Of Neopet Should Be IGNORED As Well Or With Deep Caution.
8) Carry Only A Small Amount Of Neopoints And Put The Rest In Your Bank.
9)There is no such thing as a neopoints generator, nor is there a way to get neopoints fast.
10) Unless the website says neopets.com on the address bar as well as the bottom of the screen it's probably fake.

Who are Scammers?
Scammers are people who attempt to get into your NeoPet account by any means or get you to send them neopoints, money, or items. They use your account to send items or neopoints to their other account. They get rich by stealing people's account, and may temper your account however they like. There are many ways a scammer works their way through getting your items and neopoints. They can trick you by making false promises or pretend to be a member of the Neopet.com team. Many ways of which they can manipulate you into making themselves rich and making you poor.

How can I prevent from getting scammed?
Well, they are many ways to prevent from being scammed but it depends on your intellect. One major rule is to never give out the password to your account, no matter what. No one is allowed to ask for your password and no one should know it except you. There are other ways for which a scammer can get your password, even though you think you didn't give out your password. One major way is by a false login page, which asks for the name and password. A false login page can be identified by the web address. If it's not a www.Neopet.com than it has to be a false login site. Most of the time it is obvious that it is a false login page because a banner pops up. The NeoPet site never has popup ads, and will probably never will. It is usually a good idea to just not log off from NeoPets, because you don't need to login each time. Also, never change your email address on your account if someone asks you to. A scammer can trick you into changing your email address to theirs. They can get NeoPet.com to send them your name and password because they send that information to whomever the email address belongs to that account.

How can a scammer make my account frozen?
They can't make your account get frozen but they can trick you. Never do anything illegal on NeoPet.com, like don't use programs to cheat in games. Also, don't become the scammer because that will definitely get your account frozen in matters of seconds.

Someone said that they will give me 1 million neopoints for my account, is this a scam?
We consider it as a scam; don't be gullible for that sort of thing. That person probably doesn't have 1 million neopoints, and it is sort of your fault if you give your account voluntarily. Never trust promises or any gimmicks that people come up, because they will do anything to get neopoints.

I traded 20,000 neopoints for a bottle of sand; it said in their trade offer that they would give me a baby paintbrush. Is this a scam?
Well, we don't think it is so much as a scam but a trick. When you go to the trading, there are lots of people making false statements under their trades. It sort of like advertising for their item, so that they can get a good trade. So, when you gave that person 20,000 neopoints, you are only getting the item that you are trading for and not the item that was promised. It is usually good idea to ignore the statement they put on their trades, because it's usually a lie. If you want to get a baby paintbrush, then have the person put it up for trade so that you can make an offer for that item.

I got a neomail saying that I will get reported if I don't give a rare item or 5,000 neopoints. Will I get reported?
Well, is there a reason to get reported? If you don't think that you've done anything illegal then you're probably fine. They are probably trying to scam you in sending some neopoints or items to them. Desperate people willing to do anything for neopoints and items.

Are contests a scam or are they real?
Some contests are real and some are fake, but they are likely to be fake. Contests in shops are likely to be fake because they just want neopoints, so they make some false statement saying that the winner will win a rare item or whatever.  So, they can make another NeoPet account and claim it to be the winner. Basically, giving the prize to their own account. So, it's probably a good idea to stay away from contests
